Youth Cultures and their Rituals in India
All you need is ...rituals? Like everywhere else in the world, young people in India are moving from the country to town to find their fortune. And with this they adopt quite different rituals to the ones with which they grew up. For instance, the western ritual of Valentine's Day, which first made its appearance in India about ten years ago. This week the anthropologist Christiane Brosius tells us why the day for lovers has a very special meaning for young Indians.
